業界線徑的粗細是以號數(xxAWG)來表示的,數目越小表示線徑愈粗,所能承載的電流就越大,反之則線徑越細,耐電流量越小。例如說:12號的耐電流量是20安培,最大承受功率是2200瓦,而18號線的耐電流量則是7安培,最大承受功率是770瓦。
為什麼AWG號數越小直徑反而越大?如這麼解釋你就會明白,固定的截面積下能塞相同的AWG線的數量,如11#AWG號數可塞11根而15#AWG號數可塞15根,自然的15#AWG的單位線徑就較小。
美規線徑值單一導體或群導體【各正值或負值】的線徑值(Gauge)是以圓或平方釐米(mm2) 量測而得,平方釐米不常用在量測線徑值,由於牽涉到不正確,因一般大部份的導體形體,包含長方形及其他怪異形狀。因此我們拿全部的量測以圓平方釐米(c/m)為參考值。
群導體計算的方法或公式:
加上單一導體的線徑值總和,並比較上表求得。如果值落入兩者之間,取比較少的值。
40股群導體線的線徑值為,如每一芯為24 Guage = 40 x 405 c/m = 16,200 c/m = 9 AWG(得出值落入12960c/m和16440c/m之間)
快速求得線徑值的方法:
兩條(AWG)相加時,該單一線徑值減3. ex. 2 x 18 AWG = (18-3)= 15 AWG
三條(AWG)相加時,該單一線徑值減5. ex. 3 x 24 AWG = (24-5)= 19 AWG
四條(AWG)相加時,該單一線徑值減6. ex. 4 x 10 AWG = (10-6)= 04 AWG

The author has checked the Diameter in mils results against the data contained in the MACHINERY'S HANDBOOK, Twenty-First Edition, 1982, published by Industrial Press Inc. All numbers shown are accurate to +/- 1 in the least significant digit position. Column headings have been repeated to make the list more readable
AWG = American Wire Gauge size from 0000 to 40
Dia-mils = Diameter in mils (1 mil = .001 inch)
TPI = Turns Per Inch [Note that this is for BARE WIRE. Insulation thickness varies]
Dia-mm = Diameter in millimeters. This was included to help when dealing with metric Coilers.
Circ-mils = Cross sectional Area in Circular Mils. ( circular mils = diameter in mils squared )
Ohms/Kft = Ohms Per 1,000 ft.
Ft/Ohm = Number of feet required for 1 Ohm of resistance
Ft/Lb = Feet Per Pound
Ohms/Lb = Ohms Per Pound
Lb/Kft = Pounds Per 1,000 feet
*AMPS = Conservative Amp Rating based on 750 circulare mils per Amp
MaxAmps = Maximum allowable current based on 500 circular mils per Amp. Do NOT exceed this rating.
